Why Study in Perth

If you live in Perth then the easy answer is – convenience! If you don’t live here then why not combine your training with a trip to Perth, Western Australia. On the banks of the Swan River, according to Aboriginal folklore the Swan River was created by a large mythical snake known as the Waggyl, which slithered its way through the area creating the bends and gullies which shaped the river. With shopping, gardens and river trips there will always be something to do once classes are finished and you continue to relax into the evening.

Accommodation is plentiful, from luxury hotels to hostels, B&Bs and guesthouses – there is plenty of choice in Perth. Alternatively you could stay cheaply with a local by registering with rent-a-sofa www.rentasofa.com or even free by sofa surfing through any of the reputable free stay websites. Brandon Raynor’s School of Natural Therapies offers 5 day Raynor Massage Certificate Course10 day Raynor Massage Diploma Courses in Perth on a regular basis.

Brandon Raynor started teaching Remedial massage courses in Sydney in 1998, after he was working in Herbal Solutions Massage and Natural Therapy Centre in Bondi Beach, and had many people ask him where they could learn to massage in the same way that he did. He was very well known for his strong and deep form of massage that used acupressure and breathing techniques to achieve a very deep and strong state of deep relaxation, emotional release and tension release in his clients.

Brandon had actually started to learn to massage in 1991, while living in Sydney, completing his Diploma of Remedial Massage with Health Schools Australia. He went on to do a Zen Shiatsu course at the Shiatsu Ryoho college in 1992 and found this fascinating approach to massage using acupressure points and gentle leaning in and working with a clients breath to be very powerful.

After moving to Byron Bay in Northern NSW in 1993 Brandon worked at Samadhi's Natural Health Centre and was fortunate to be able to do many massage swaps with many of the massage therapists and other natural health practitioners in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast. He was influenced by practitioners such as Carole Starr who was using breathe work to facilitate emotional releases, as well as being influenced by massage therapists who were combining deep tissue massage with acupuncture and acupressure points to achieve a high level of deep muscle tension relief in their clients.

By the time Brandon finished his Naturopathy Diploma in 1994 ( by correspondence with Health Schools Australia) he was well on his way to developing his own style of massage therapy.
and

Brandon continued his studies, specializing in Oriental and Ayurvedic Medicine (from India), completing his Diplomas in Chinese Herbal medicine in 1995 and his Diploma of Ayurvedic Medicine a couple of years later. His knowledge of oriental medicine helped him to see the body in a different light and understand much more about the subtleties of the life energy or what has been called "chi" in Chinese Medicine or "prana" in Ayurvedic Medicine.

Soon he was using this knowledge of the subtle body in combination with the breathe work that Carol had shown him and the deep massage techniques he had learnt in Byron Bay, to be able to do a very powerful massage treatment. Some people compared it to Rolfing, a style of very deep massage popular in America, but it was very unique in its emphasis on acupressure points, breathing and the importance of abdominal massage. By 1995 Brandon was teaching shiatsu massage courses in Byron Bay.

Brandon also learnt through his many years of study that doing a good massage is actually quite simple. While recognising that some theoretical knowledge can be useful, giving a good massage didn't involve rote learning Latin or Greek muscle names, and spending endless hours learning all sorts of theory.

Brandon discovered that what really made a good massage therapist was the ability to release tension. This involved getting a good feel for massage and also understanding how muscle tension is interconnected in the human body. His knowledge of Eastern Medicine helped him to understand this better.

For example a person could have tight feet and this would then make their legs tight, which would make their hips tight, which would make their back tight, which would make their neck tight and hence would cause them headaches.

There were many different relationships within the human body that Brandon, and other therapists had figured out and he believed that these were the most important things to teach people who wanted to learn massage.

Therefore when Brandon had his clients ask him where they could learn massage like that at a massage course in Sydney he said he could teach them to be excellent therapists in just 4 days, because he would cut through all the unnecessary knowledge that you would never use that was being taught at many massage schools in Sydney and across the world and only teach his students the distilled essence of his many years of experience.

This was the start of Brandon Raynor's School of Natural Therapies. His massage courses in Sydney soon proved so popular that he was teaching in many locations throughout Australia and by 2002 had expanded to start holding massage courses in the UK and massage courses in the USA.

He now has trained several of his students to teach his massage courses in Sydney and the massage courses are held worldwide, in 25 cities in 12 different countries.

He changed his massage courses to make them slightly longer by changing it to a 5 day Massage Certificate Course and an extended course that includes reflexology, aromatherapy and more time to practice as his 10 day Massage Diploma Course.

These two massage courses are also useful for those wanting to get Australian Government qualifications. Our Certificate Course is recognised by Health Schools Australia as way above government standard for all of the practical aspects of their Government accredited Certificate IV in Remedial Massage. Therefore they give Recognition of Prior Learning for all of the practical aspects of that course and students would just have to complete the theory components such as anatomy, business studies and ethics. Many students with previous health qualifications may also be exempt from these subjects and be able to receive their CERT IV right away, after completing our course

If a student completes our Diploma of Raynor Massage they will be exempt from all the practical massage components of the Government accredited Diploma of Remedial Massage with our partner school Health Schools Australia. The benefits of studying our course in association with them is that as Stephen Eddy, the principal of Health Schools Australia, and a committee member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society, has publicly said, our training is way above government standard, which is why he is happy to give Recognition of Prior Learning for all of our subjects. This means that you will be able to complete our course and immediately get covered by insurance companies for malpractice etc, while then completing the rest of the course with Health Schools Australia, entirely by correspondence, In addition, you would then be able to receive Austudy for the costs of the rest of Health Schools Australia's course so then eventually when you complete the theory subjects with Health Schools Australia you will then have government recognized qualifications, which will enable you to give clients Health Care Rebates. In addition, if you are already a nurse or other health practitioner, you will probably be exempt from all the theory as it is mostly anatomy and physiology, practice management, occupational health and safety etc so you could then complete our Diploma course and be exempt from possibly all or almost all, the theory subjects and then receive your Australian Government Diploma of Remedial Massage right away from Health Schools Australia. The combination course is actually the best priced way on the market to get you qualifications, as well as offering the highest quality level of training as Stephen Eddy has confirmed. You are also dually qualified in both a government recognized qualification and an internationally recognized private qualification.

Health Schools Australia has also International Accreditation so that students from other countries can also get recognised for skills based training that they have completed between our two colleges. For example, in Hawaii, Brandon was able to get his license for massage therapy merely by showing that he had completed his Diploma of Remedial Massage with Health Schools Australia in 1991. So, many US states may also recognise qualifications from overseas and you may be able to study with our two colleges in order to get licensed. We are presently researching this further.

Brandon now lives in Makaha, Hawaii with his wife and sons where the family are setting up a worldwide massage retreat training centre, while his teachers continue teaching his massage courses in Sydney and other locations across the world. Brandon also travels regularly around the world lecturing and giving classes. He will be holding an Advanced Massage Diploma Course in Perth in July 2008

The massage courses are taught at the Swanbourne Surf Live Saving Club, overlooking the beach and we currently hold our 5 day Massage certificate Course and 10 day Massage Diploma Courses in Perth on a 3 monthly schedule.

Graduate Feedback

Here are some comments from graduates who have completed our massage courses in Australia. Feel free to contact them where email addresses are available:

"Hi Brandon, I hope my email finds you excellent in good health and wealthy in spirits.

Just wanted to let you know that today I was approached from BHP Billiton ( Mining Company) to obtain my interest in working with their company as soon as we can organize a meeting to find out what I would require to set up my massage business in conjunction with their company.

I can't tell you what a huge buzz I have gotten from all of this. Especially being told that I have come highly recommended. I don't have to tell you how I already get a buzz from my business as it is now.

So in short, what I'm really wanting to say is thank you, for opening up my eyes to a whole new world. A different approach to life and the skills to be able to help those that need it.

I'm hanging out to do the last part of the diploma next week in Perth. I'm not sure whether it is the lure of some more hands on massaging......( boy could I use it right now) or just to obtain that further knowledge.........

Oh yes, and you can say...not that woman again...

Once again, thank you for what you have followed through with your dream, and allowing the rest of us to share in it.

Regards

Maria Teale"

"Prior to doing your massage course in Melbourne I was working part time massaging, doing relaxation therapy, so it has definitely opened new door's for me. A client I massage every Friday night for $50 came last Friday said it was the best massage he's had and to my surprise he had left me $80 instead of $50. There has been some really positive feed back from my client's and I love what I am doing, every massage I do I feel is better than the last and I learn something new every time as every body is different, so yes the course was great. Thank you"
